Julie’s diverse career experiences helped shape the foundation of New Direx. While her primary focus is handling the accounting details of the bi-coastal company, Julie enthusiastically pursues sales, client satisfaction and appreciation, staff assistance, and agent relations.
Her early career pursuits were in journalism as a sports editor before Julie shifted her focus to New Direx when her husband John founded the company in 1993. The company thrived during the formative years under the divide-and-conquer strategy of John and Julie. Capitalizing on each other’s strengths, they established a company that flourished from a small operation to a globally respected freight forwarder.
Julie has traveled internationally to form working partnerships with agents worldwide. Julie finds that her journalistic instincts help in asking the right questions and finding the answers to create positive flow throughout the company. Her consistent ability in journalism meeting the demands of deadline pressure trained her to handle the daily challenges of running a business.
While Julie’s passion for writing remained constant, she pursued the opportunity to write and professionally publish two sports books. She finds the parallels between writing and the pursuit of getting published similar to the demands of running a freight forwarding business. Working with other people amicably, managing deadlines and true gumption are the key factors in making it all happen.
Julie is a graduate of Springfield College where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the student newspaper for three years, played varsity soccer and was vice-president of her class. After college she was sports editor at Imprint Newspapers where she received a Miller Lite Women in Sports Journalism award. She has had many articles published in The New York Times and Newsday.
In her spare time, Julie is currently writing a novel. She enjoys walking her dogs on the beach, yoga, movies, music, books, and cooking. She spends quality time with her son and daughter as well as family and friends.
